How to Connect

In order to connect to the Shore Works 802.11b/g Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) you will require a compatible laptop or PDA with Wireless LAN capability. If you are not sure your device is compatible check with your device manufacturer. A compatible 802.11b/g WiFi network card can be purchased from your local computer dealer or from www.veryhotspot.com.

Step 1 - Once you enable the wireless 802.11b/g capability on your device (laptop computer, PDA or the like), you will detect a wireless network called Wireless Hotspot (Shore Works). Select this network and then connect to it.

Step 2 - After you have connected with Shore Works, you will be assigned a valid IP Address. In order for this to happen the TCP/IP Properties for your wireless network card should be set to Obtain an IP Address automatically and Obtain a DNS Server Address automatically.

Step 3 - To configure your Internet browser for optimum performance ensure that the LAN connection settings has all proxy settings disabled .

Step 4 - To logon to the high speed internet service provided by Shore Works, launch your internet browser. You will automatically be re-directed to a portal logon screen. If you do not see the portal logon screen, refresh your browser page. If you are still not presented with the portal screen then you should make sure your browser is pointed to an Internet address (such as www.google.com) and not an Intranet site inside your workplace.

You will need to enter the prepaid username & password found overleaf. Select “Prepaid Card” then type your Username and Password. After a successful logon your browser will be redirected to a welcome page that will launch your home Web page or the last entry in your internet browser before you were redirected to the logon screen.

Further instructions regarding connection times, logging out and such are displayed on the popup portal screen after your login is completed. This is a popup. To see this, you will either need to disable your popup blocker before logging in or, as soon as you log in you will see a Welcome Screen, which has a button titled “Monitor Session” You will have 10 seconds to click on the button before you are redirected to your home page. If you miss it, you can always click the Back button in your browser and then click on Monitor Session.

Step 5 - To Logout, select the session info Window. Click on the “Log Out” button. You may also disconnect from the wireless network Shore Works using your laptop wireless settings.
